After the conversion of a former large scale retailers’ premises into the home of an emerging MMA powerhouse in the Waikato, the enormous overall space upon entry to the building required an anchor point for visitors. We were engaged to complete an expression of sculptural geometry in creating a reception for the gyms’ coaches and administrators. Mild steel panels were assembled in place on-site drawing inspiration from the sports hard-nosed nature. A mix of both welded and folded edges with celebrated heat tinting along weld lines and a black soft touch laminate desk behind. This unique ‘desk’ fosters functionality alongside a perfectly imperfect shell.
